Biography
I grew up in my family's independent bookstore, Jabberwocky Bookshop, and this experience has stayed with me, motivating me to write books, reviews, and essays. While in college I became interested in solving the scientific problem of consciousness and ended up receiving my PhD in neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I worked with Giulio Tononi on developing aspects of Integrated Information Theory. Later I was a postdoctoral researcher at Columbia University working with Rafael Yuste, as well as a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. A Forbes 30 Under 30 in science, and have been a research assistant professor at Tufts University in Boston. In 2017 I was chosen as a NYC Emerging Writers Fellow for my short stories. My debut novel, The Revelations, is now out from Overlook Press / Abrams Books in April of 2021. I live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
